For more than two decades the Caine Prize for African Writing has discovered and championed writers from across the continent and its diaspora—bringing bold, original short stories to readers around the world, and opening doors that last a lifetime through the awarding of its annual prize, its creative writing workshops, and the publication of its anthologies.

Bongani Kona was shortlisted for the prize in 2016 while Rémy Ngamije was shortlisted in 2020 and 2021; in 2024, Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu served as one its judges. Roxane Bayer became the first Namibian writer to take part in the Caine Prize Writing Workshop which was hosted in Zanzibar, Tanzania in 2026.
