Open Book—based in Cape Town, South Africa—curates three multi-day engagements over the course of a year: the Youth Fest in March, the Workshop Week in June, and the Open Book Festival in September.

From encouraging a love of stories in the youngest of readers, through to skill sharing and conversations that explore crucial themes, Open Book is one of the most important literary citizens in Cape Town and South Africa with its annual festival drawing some of the most acclaimed writers and poets in the world to its stages. As one of the longest running and globally renowned literary festivals in Africa, the Open Book Festival serves as a source of inspiration for Doek and its projects.

In partnering with Open Book, the Doek Literary Festival seeks to engage in dialogue and resource-sharing about the ways in which local and national literary communities can be strengthened.
