The European Union (EU) is a supranational political and economic union of 27 countries that aims to promote peace, stability, and human development. It was founded on values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. These values are shared by all EU Member States and underpin a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality prevail.

Beyond its borders, the EU plays an active role as a global partner, working to promote sustainable development, poverty reduction, good governance, climate action, and multilateral cooperation. Today, the EU and its Member States constitute the world’s largest provider of development assistance and aid, supporting partner countries in addressing global challenges and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The EU Delegation to Namibia works closely with Namibia as a key political partner in Southern Africa. Political relations are framed by the Samoa Agreement, which guides cooperation between the EU and OACPS countries and promotes dialogue on peace and security, development, climate change, migration and economic growth. The EU Delegation also supports strong trade and economic ties between the European Union and Namibia under the SADC Economic Partnership Agreement. This development-oriented agreement provides Namibia with duty-free and quota-free access to the EU market, supports sustainable development, and fosters inclusive economic growth, job creation, and regional integration.
